about

Gunārs Rozenbergs (1947—2009) is a true legend of Latvian jazz. Trumpeter, conductor, composer and arranger from Rīga, Latvia. Considered by many to be the finest jazz instrumentalist to ever come out of the Soviet jazz scene, Rozenbergs was at the front of most jazz culture developments in Soviet Union and later in independent Latvia.

Throughout his long lasting career since 1965 Rozenbergs played in many bands both as a leader and as a sideman, also acting as an arranger for many Latvian composers, including Raimonds Pauls.

In 1976 he recorded LAURA - a jazz / fusion album that still stands as a landmark recording of Soviet and Latvian jazz scene. Now follows LINDA - jazz / funk / fusion album recorded by Latvian Radio Big Band in 2021 from the original scores of Gunārs Rozenbergs music from 1970ties and 1980ties carefully selected by Latvian Radio Big Band leader Kārlis Vanags.

Recording featured guest appearances by legendary Latvian jazz musicians - friends and collegues of Gunārs Rozenbergs - pianist Raimonds Pauls, trumpeter Aivars Krūmiņš, saxophonists Jurijs Smirnovs and Eduards Raubiško, trombonist Bruno Jurgenbergs, pianist Madars Kalniņš, guitarist Aivars Hermanis and bassist Jurijs Širokovs.
